gillits park

Gillitts Park is great for walking dogs around the neighbourhood due to fairly low traffic volumes. All the conservancy areas are highly protected with multiple species of game and rare plants which doesn’t lend itself to too much dog walking, however, there is a great “rail trail” on the border of Gillits Park, running along the railway line from Kloof to Hillcrest, which is great for dog walkers with dogs on leads. Be sure to go in groups of 2 or more for safety! If you are headed to Gillits Park for a walk be sure to check out the Iphithi Dam – on Edward Drive

A lovely large area for your dog to enjoy! The dog park permits dogs to be off the leash, however, owners are encouraged to keep their dogs on the leash if they are feeling unsure of their dog’s socialness with other dogs. The dog park is in the same area as the Westville bowling green and Civic Centre. There is a boom gate at the entrance, so you can’t miss it. The area is open throughout the day, but most owners usually come together from about 4 in the afternoon.
