10 Toxic foods to avoid feeding your dogs

Whilst you think you may be giving your dog an innocent treat or that your actions are not harmful, you could not be more wrong; if you are giving any of these 10 foods!

Countless food products can harm or even kill your dog. Do not, under any circumstances, feed them the following:

  1. Xylitol

Xylitol is an artificial sweetener. It is found in foodstuffs such as candy and baked goods. If fed to your pet, it can cause a drop in blood sugar, liver failure and seizures.

  1. Alcohol

Never think it’s amusing to feed your dog alcohol. It has the same effect on him as on you. Only, the effect is far more powerful and can lead to coma or death.

  1. Onions and Garlic

Onions and garlic, be they cooked, dehydrated, powdered or raw, can kill off his red blood cells which causes anaemia.

  1. Grapes and Raisins

Grapes and raisins cause kidney failure in dogs.

  1. Chocolate

Chocolate contains theobromine. This can result in heart problems, seizures, tremors and even death.

  1. Salt

Eating too much salt can lead to vomiting, depression, seizures and death.

  1. People Medication

Do not feed your dog medication for humans. It can make them extremely ill.

  1. Yeast Dough

The dough used in baked products can swell your dog’s gut causing pain and alcohol poisoning which occurs because of yeast fermentation.

  1. Sugary Foods and Drinks

Too much sugar can cause a dog to become overweight or to develop dental problems. It can also cause diabetes.

  1. Raw Meat and Fish

Raw meat and fish can contain bacteria that cause food poisoning. Some fish also contain a parasite that causes toxicity unless fully cooked. Feeding raw fish to your dog can cause vomiting and enlargement of lymph nodes.
